Doncaster’s Kyle Fox continues his unbeaten run with points win in Worksop
Rising super-welterweight star Kyle Fox moved up to 5-0 with a shutout points win on March 10 at the North Notts Arena.
The 24-year-old from Armthorpe headlined the JE Promotions’ ‘Rising Stars’ six-fight card that also saw Hassan Ahmed (8-0); Sonny Price (2-0); and Omari Grant (5-0) all extend their unbeaten records.
The event showcasing the area’s emerging talent was promoted by former pro Joe Elfidh in association with Scott Calow Boxing – their seventh event at the popular East Midlands venue.
Headliner, Fox, a former Yorkshire amateur boxing champion, conquered former Belarusian lightweight champion Andrei Hramyka (10-25-4) 40-37 on points.
His 26-year-old travelling opponent from Minsk was a risky fight for Fox, having knocked out nine of his 10 victims – eight of those coming in the first round – and winning the national title in his 13th fight with yet another first round stoppage.
It could have been a messy fight, but Fox gave himself space and kept it long, and once he found his range in the second round, it was a one-sided fight from thereon. The home fighter landed his punches cleanly, especially the rear uppercut, which found its target often.
Trained by Michael White out of the Fighting Fit Gym in Dinnington, Fox boxed clever to continue his unbeaten run that now sees him ranked in the top 50 of the stacked 154-pound division.
Rarely seen, both national championships in the super-welterweight standings are currently available as Liam Williams (16-2-1) recently vacated his British belt, as did ex-English champion Ted Cheeseman (13-0).
Reading’s Asinia Byfield (14-1) and Liverpool’s James Metcalf (17-0) are due to meet for the English super-welterweight championship by June this year, which doubles up as an eliminator for the British, although Central Area champion Evaldas Korsakas (7-5-2) is more likely to be the man in Fox’s sights this year.
Fox said, “I’m looking to keep getting more wins on the record and more rounds in under my belt. Basically, just trying to work my way towards a shot at the Central Area title this year.”
