Kiko Martinez says victory over Kid Galahad was anything but a shock
The new featherweight champion celebrated his surprise win.
Kiko Martinez celebrated his upset win over Kid Galahad after beating him on Saturday night in the sixth round.
The 35-year-old Spaniard is now the IBF featherweight champion, a return to glory after previously holding belts at bantamweight earlier in his career.
It had seemed that Galahad was on cruise control for a successful defence of the title he picked up in August earlier this year, and he looked on top for the first four rounds.
That changed in the fifth when Martinez dropped the Briton at the end of the fifth and promptly knocked him out with his first punch of the sixth. After the fight, Martinez claimed it was anything but a shock.
"It may be a surprise for everyone else but not me," he said. "For the last three years I've lived like a monk; no holidays, no time off and no time with my family.
"I've been prepared for this and worked really hard for three years. I'm in better shape than I've ever been, better than when I was 20 years of age."
