Larena conquers WBC Bridgerweight Silver title
On May 13 at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, South Africa, Kevin Lerena (29-2, 14 KOs) earned a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Ryad Merhy (31-2, 26 KOs) from Belgium to conquer the WBC Bridgerweight Silver title, in a match that was also an eliminatory bout.
"The KO Kid" Lerena will now have to challenge reigning WBC Bridger champion Lucasz Rozanski for the world title. Rozanksi recently captured the vacant title with a first-round knockout of Alen Babic.
Lerena, 31 fro Johannesburg, was cautious and started slow, but increased his work rate as the rounds progressed in what turned out to be a closely contested bout.
The Judges’ scorecards were 118-110, 115-113 and 116-112.
