Kevin Larena and Senad Gashi disputing WBC interim bridgerweight title
South African southpaw Kevin Lerena (29-2, 14KO) will fight German KO artist Senad Gashi (27-3, 26KO) for the interim WBC Bridgerweight title on Saturday, November 25, at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, South Africa.
In May, "The KO Kid" Kevin Lerena, 31 from Johannesburg, secured a 12-round unanimous decision over Ryad Merhy, allowing the South African star to bounce back from last December’s knockout loss at the hands of Briton Daniel Dubois.
After suffering that loss to Dubois, who Lerena knocked down three times in the first round, has since dropped weight to compete in the bridgerweight category, a successful division created by the WBC between heavyweight and cruiserweight.
Kosovan-born German national "GachineGun" Gashi has gone 10-0-1 in his last 11 appearances. All three of his losses came at the heavyweight limit, against dangerous contenders including Carlos Takam and Derek Chisora.
The winner will have a chance against the current WBC overall bridger champion, Lukasz Rozanski of Poland, if he can successfully defend his crown against former three-division champion Badou Jack.
