Sheffield gets a big night of boxing at Ponds Forge Arena on August 27, live on Fightzone.
Topping the show is local fighter Anthony Tomlinson. Undefeated at 13-0 (7), the 29-year-old will take on experienced Mexican, Dante Jardon, 33-6 (24), for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) Inter-Continental Welterweight Title.
Also undefeated, Sheffield super featherweight Kane Salvin will finally get the chance to defend his Central Area Title against Michael Gomez Jr – with the bout originally scheduled then scuppered earlier in the year to allow Kane to recover from illness.
Salvin versus Gomez Jr – which is also an eliminator for the English Title – could well be fight of the night at Ponds Forge. Salvin claimed the belt in an all-action scrap with Sufi Ahmed in December last year, edging out his local rival in a terrific ten round fight to move to 6-0.
Gomez Jr – son of acclaimed former British champion, Michael Gomez – has lost just once in 14 fights, has three KOs but knows that a loss would be a serious backwards step for his career.
Also on the card is popular heavyweight Dave ‘White Rhino’ Allen. The former Commonwealth Title challenger gets a six rounder as he looks to ease himself back into the fight game after a last outing in August 2020 when he stopped Dorian Darch in three rounds. Allen is currently slated to face Italian, Andrea Pesce, 7-13-3 (2).
“I was gutted the fight [with Gomez Jr] fell through before,” explained Salvin, “but my team said as soon as I was ready to go they’d get it back on, which they have done.
“I’m expecting him to come and give me a good fight, and that’s what I want. There aren’t many fighters about at my level prepared to take these kind of fights but I want to make a statement. On the night it will all come to plan and I’m confident I’ll win.
“I’ve trained hard, left no stone unturned and whatever he wants to do on the night, whether he wants to box – I’ll beat him that way, or if he wants to try and outman me, I’ll beat him at that too.
“It’s going to be a good fight, that’s a definite. I’m looking forward to appearing on Fightzone too, having the cameras in my face! I’ll do whatever I have to, to win. If I have to stand toe-to-toe with Gomez Jr, then that’s what I’ll do, but I can promise you that I’ll win in some way, shape or form.”
