Background
‘Leeds Warrior’ Josh Warrington (29-0) shocked everyone when he defeated the defending IBF world featherweight Lee Selby (26-1) in May 2018. But that was just the start of things to come. He then stunned two-weight world champion Carl Frampton (26-1) with a unanimous decision win in his first defence of the red strap. His latest successful defence, which ended as a very close split decision verdict, was against talented unbeaten prospect Kid Galahad (29-1), which brings his record up to 3-0 in world title fights against elite competition with a combined record of 78-2.
His fourth world title fight and 30th professional contest should be an easier one for the 28-year-old defending champion. His challenger, Sofiane Takoucht (35-3-1), has operated at European level when he held the European featherweight belt for 13 months between August 2010-September 2011, but he hasn’t really progressed above that platform during his approaching 13-year professional career. His two-year reign as IBF International featherweight champion has earned him the shot at Warrington, but the 33-year-old, who hasn’t stopped anyone in the last five years, will likely by outworked by his younger opponent.
