Josh Taylor on Jack Caterall fight: I don’t see him winning in any way
'The Tartan Tornado' faces 'El Gato' in February 2022
In an exclusive interview, BetfredTV have been speaking to undisputed super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor (18-0, 13 KO’s), 30 from Scotland, regarding his upcoming fight with English challenger Jack Catterall (26-0, 13 KO’s), why he wants to see more unification fights in the sport of boxing, and addresses rumours that he may fight Teofimo Lopez if he steps up in weight class.
What is the prediction for the fight with Jack Caterall?
“Me winning. I don’t see him winning in any way. I don’t see how he can get a result and how he can beat me. I believe I’m the better fighter in every department. Unless I switch off or overlook him, but there’s no possibility of that happening. I just don’t see a way of him winning the fight unless I have an off night.”
How does it feel to be defending your belts back in Scotland again?
“I'm excited to be back in Scotland. Since I was 15 years old I dreamed of being a world champion. I've surpassed those dreams by becoming the UK's first undisputed champion and the full belt holder. So it's a massive, massive moment for me to defend these belts in Scotland against Jack Catterall.
“It’s the first time I’ve boxed at home in just over two years and Glasgow Hydro Arena is a cauldron, the fans make a hell of an atmosphere so I’m really looking forward to that.”
Would you like to see more unification fights in boxing?
“Yeah of course, it’s what boxing needs. That’s why I’m in the sport because I want to challenge the best and beat the best to be the best. It’s great for the sport when champions fight other champions and it grows the sport by getting more exciting fights happening.
“UFC has shown us how to do it. All the top fighters fight each other for one belt, so there’s no chance of going via different routes to become a world champion and having four separate champions in one weight class. UFC has got it right and it’s something that boxing needs more of. More unification fights I'd say. The more the better.”
There's rumours you may welcome a fight with Teofimo Lopez if he steps up in weight?
“No, not now. He’s been beat so what’s the point? He got beat by [George] Kambosos Jr and he was beat well. He got really beat up so there’s no point.”
