Josh Taylor weigh-in issues explained
Undefeated World Boxing Council silver super lightweight champion Josh Taylor will defend his crown in the semi-final of the successful World Boxing Super Series tournament against unbeaten Belarusian Ivan Baranchyk this Saturday at SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland….so someone`s “O” will go!
Taylor (14-0, 12 KOs) comes from stopping American Ryan Martin in the seventh round. Baranchyk (19-0, 12 KOs) booked his place in the semifinal on October 27 when he defeated Anthony Yigit of Sweden through a stoppage in the seventh round.
At the weigh in Taylor seemed to reached the 140 pounds limit, but there was confusion due to the metric system, since it carried out in kilograms instead of pounds.
The unbeaten WBC Silver champion had an excess weight of 0.2 pounds over the 140-pound limit, which generated controversy. Taylor, thinking that he had passed, drank water.
Minutes later he was alerted that he had exceeded the limit and had two hours to mark the exact 140 pounds division.
Later Taylor returned to the scale and made the mandatory weight without any further problem. While Baranchyk was 139.6 pounds.
