Joseph Diaz claimed the interim WBC lightweight title
Joseph Diaz produced a fantastic performance as he defeated Javier Fortuna to win the interim WBC lightweight title on Friday.
The two men squared off on a Golden Boy Promotions show at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, and was broadcast live on DAZN.
Diaz (32-1-1, 15 KOs) showed his elite skills throughout the fight, dominating the majority of the action against Fortuna (36-3-1, 25 KOs).
The fight went the distance, with the judges scoring it 117-110, 116-111, 115-112 to hand Diaz an extremely impressive win.
The victory sees Diaz make a huge statement in his debut at 135lbs, and he’s ready for anybody in that weight class.
Diaz said: “I can fight these guys, I can fight all the top contenders and champions at 135 lbs.
“Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney, let’s make this happen, baby! I’m ready! 135, let’s get it!”
Promoter Oscar de la Hoya added: “JoJo once again showed a lot of guts, a lot of courage, and a big heart.
“His first fight at 135 was not too shabby. I think he did a great job against a guy who’s been avoided for so many years.”
Elsewhere on the card, there was an unfortunate loss for Hector Tanajara, as he came up short in his fight with William Zepeda.
