Joel Camilleri back in Sydney for WBC Australasia title defence
'Camo KO' comes back to Sydney
Reigning WBC Australasia champion Joel Camilleri (20-6-1, 8KOs) will defend his 156-pound title at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on November 17, part of a packed card as Australia’s gateway city holds a major boxing event after 107 days in Covid-19 lockdown.
Super Welterweight Camilleri faces a dangerous opponent in rising star Koen Mazoudier (8-2, 4KOs), 26 from Blacktown, New South Wales.
The WBC Super Welterweight Australasia title defense takes place on the same event as WBC #3 super welterweight Tim Tszyu, who defends his WBO Asia Pacific and WBO Global super welterweight belts to Takeshi Inoue (17-1-1, 10KOs) of Japan.
Camilleri went the distance with Tszyu in May 2016 in a tight contest staged in Sydney for the WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Welterweight title.
Dennis Hogan (28-4-1, 7KOs) is also on show against experienced Tommy Browne (42-7-2, 18KOs) over six-rounds at super welterweight. Irish-born Browne has won his last six fights, whereas 'Hurricane' Hogan has lost three title fights in a row – two of those for world titles (WBO then WBC) – the last being a TKO5 reverse to Tim Tszyu for 'The Soul Taker's; WBO Global belt.
Three unbeaten prospects Hassan Hamdan (3-0); Jackson Murray (1-0); Viviana Ruiz Corredor all look to extend their perfect records, and debutant Harry Garside looks to join them as he makes his pro bow over four rounds at super lightweight.
