JE Boxing is the only professional boxing platform in Kent, owned by Joe ‘The Moroccan Machine’ Elfidh – a two-weight Central Area title contender who shared the ring with English, British, Commonwealth and World champions.
As a promoter, he is single-handedly bringing big-time boxing back to the Garden of England and his hometown of Worksop.
Welcome to his weekly column – exclusive to BBN
Richard ‘The Upsetter’ Thomas
‘The Upsetter’ Richard Thomas defied the odds to beat favourite Daniel Slaney (8-2-1) in the sixth round of their Central Area super-middleweight title fight on June 10th at Doncaster Dome on a Stefy Bull Promotions show.
He comes up trumps in big fights and moves up to 5-1 on his record. He needs a big fight to get up for it and to find the motivation to work hard. Having this win will give him a boost and get him a big fight next.
There might be better boxers out there but they can’t hit as hard! He’s got such good power in both hands.
Dan Slaney was out on his feet in that first round. It took just 10 seconds for Richard to hurt him and he recovered well but when he got caught again he was gone again.
They underestimated him and he gave it his all. So many people told me, naming no names, that he didn’t have a chance of winning that title, and I don’t know if anyone has ever won an Area title in their sixth fight before.
He was in the away corner but sold a few tickets anyway, being a Doncaster boy. He’s a pleasure to work with and I don’t think anyone from Tickhill has ever achieved this before.
He’s hardworking in the gym and never says no to any fight, he’s not bothered about boxing in the away corner, he’s so naturally heavy-handed with both hands.
What’s next for Richard is that he likes being up against it so we’ll look for a big name next. Being the Central Area champion puts him in the mix for the English title next!
SD International Challenge Belt Champion
Spiros Demetriou won first eight-rounder against a good kid last month at the York Hall.
The landmark win was for the International Challenge light-heavyweight belt and takes his record up to 7-0.
He won all eight rounds against Tomislav Rudan (7-19-1), a Croatian who is undefeated in his home country. He recently beat ‘The General’ Aji Sharif (5-5) on his home turf in Park Lane Hotel so he was a good kid.
SD did extremely well and we will be looking at the Southern Area title next. I’ve already spoken to his team and Victor Smith and I will be putting an application in to the BBBofC.
Heavyweight Talent Discovered in Kent
I got a call from Simon Gideon to go to the new Kent Gloves gym to see a boxer called Kurt Johnson.
He’s a heavyweight who has done a lot of Kickboxing and K1 fights. He has had one amateur boxing bout and won by knockout. I wasn’t expecting much but when I saw him training, I was genuinely shocked!
I don’t know where this kid has been hiding for so long but he is brilliant! I was blown away. He’s super sharp and exciting!
His debut will be October 7th at Mote Park along with Grant Dennis, Luke Gibbo and many more.
He will be training with Simon Gideon abd Charlie Rumbol at Kent Gloves gym.Watch out for him because he is phenomenal!
