Joe McGrail set for seventh pro bout this Saturday
Liverpool's undefeated featherweight prospect Joe McGrail (6-0, 2KO) is all set for his seventh pro bout this Saturday, March 18, which doubles up as his first headlining fight at the Liverpool Olympia.
McGrail tops the seven-fight card this Saturday, promoted by Mark Bateson, appearing alongside local boxers Hakeem Palmer (3-0, 1KO); Adam Carberry (4-0, 2KO); Dexter Makaza (4-0, 2KO); Blane Hyland (7-1); Muhammad Ali Zahid (8-0).
The 20-year-old talent raced to 6-0 within just 10 months, kicking off his pro debut with a second-round stoppage in December 2021, culminating win a six-round points victory in October 2022.
Now, in his first fight of the year, Joe is headlining at the Liverpool Olympia, which is his second consecutive appearance at the 2,000-capacity auditorium.
Joe faces Bradford's Jake Pollard, who has only been stopped once in his last 42 bouts. The pair will clash over six rounds at featherweight.
"I'm feeling good, just looking forward to getting back out," Joe said. "Obviously, I had a few months out with injuries from my last fight.
"I'm happy that I'm headlining the bill, so that'll be a good experience fighting that later on the card on the night.
"So, yeah, that'll be a good experience for when I am in them big fights and I will be fighting at half 9, 10 and stuff like that."
Trained by Paul Stevenson at the Everton Red Triangle, Joe counts older brother Peter McGrail as his teammate, as well as WBC #7 featherweight Nick Ball, undefeated Brad Strand, and WBC International Silver super-bantamweight champion Andrew Cain.
Stevenson praised his young featherweight charge, "The opponent has changed a few times in the week leading up to the fight and I've been very impressed with Joe's maturity and professionalism in dealing with that. Joe is absolutely flying in the gym and has been holding his own in sparring with Andrew Cain and Brad Strand."
Joe added his plans for 2023, "Just stay active and push the rounds up to keep climbing the ladders."
