Joe Joyce preparing to fight in March
Betway recently spoke to heavyweight Joe Joyce about his next fight, and the puncher from Putney revealed he has made slight changes to his team ahead of his training camp starting this week.
After back to back losses to Chinese behemoth Zhilei Zhang, Joyce is wisely aiming to ease himself back in with an easier opponent as he makes his comeback.
Hear what he said below:
What’s next for you?
JJ: "It’s water over the bridge after my defeat against Zhang now and I’m looking at steps ahead and Zhang meanwhile can continue what he’s doing and I aim to get back into the ring in March for an easier fight and then once I get back in there and if I win, then I’ll come for these big heavyweight fights.
"I would fight anyone of them in Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker. There’s a lot of interesting fights out there these days, especially with what is happening in Saudi – there’s plenty of great fights but I need to get comfortable winning again and then go for a big test.
"Officially camp starts on January 8th and with small changes [in the team] as I’ll do my camp here [in England] so I won’t need to go to Las Vegas this time. There’ll be Steve Broughton heading the boxing training, and possibly another trainer for the strength and conditioning. I think I will have two or three fights this year."
What did you make of Daniel Dubois v Jarrell Miller?
JJ: "It was a good performance; he got the win and he seemed to have had a really good training camp and has made a good move with Don Charles. That seems to suit him and he is improving. He arguably beat Oleksandr Usyk with the shot. He hits hard, he’s young and is a good fighter."
Thoughts on December 23 with Joseph Parker winning against Deontay Wilder?
JJ: "It was a great night to watch the boxing. I stayed in and watched it – it was good. There were big heavyweight fights, some good light heavyweight fights too that I watched and there were some good upsets.
"With Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder, I thought Joseph Parker was a good boxer and would give him trouble, but I thought Wilder may have got a big shot in there in round 10 but he got completely battered and convincingly beat against Parker."
Would you want Dubois v Parker next and the winner to face you?
JJ: "Yeah, that would be interesting and then I fight the winner but there’s plenty of other big fights. It would be a good fight to get me back in there but I’m just focusing on getting a win before I look too far ahead on what’s on offer."
