Jennifer Miranda vs Iara Altamirano
Madrid will stage the 126lbs WBA interim world title fight between local star Jennifer Miranda (9-0, 1KO) and Argentinean boxer Iara Altamirano (9-0-1) on January 7, 2024.
During 2023, 37-year-old “Jenny”, who was an actress in the successful series “La Casa de Papel”, held a fruitful camp in the United States where she also had the opportunity to participate in the reality boxing show, Team Combat Leagues.
With the wealth of the experience worked in her amateur career, Madrid's Miranda debuted as a professional on February 3, 2018, defeating Claire Sammut in a unanimous decision. Since then, she has nine wins with 1 knockout and no losses.
On December 12, 2021, in an intense fight, she beat Argentina’s Jorgelina Guanini and conquered the black and gold WBa Inter-continental featherweight belt and then defended it successfully in May 2022 against Sayda Mosquera, WHILST obtaining the #3 position in the WBA world ranking.
In the other corner will be visiting 26-year-old Iara Altamirano, a strong and technical fighter who holds an undefeated record of 9 wins and 1 draw, having won the Argentine bantamweight championship on December 14, 2019 against her compatriot Julieta Cardozo in what was her only 10-round submission so far.
After that she had to put her sporting career on the back burner to focus on motherhood, but already in 2022 she resumed activity and added two new victories that positioned her highly again.
This will undoubtedly be a great opportunity for these two boxers. Whoever wins will be the direct candidate to face the absolute champion Amanda Serrano.
Jennifer Miranda ready to reign
Spain’s Jennifer “Tormenta” Miranda feels she is in the best moment of her career to face Argentina’s Iara Altamirano for the WBA interim featherweight title this January 7 at the emblematic Cine Callao in Madrid.
“I’m better than ever and that’s not just saying it, I’ve been training for almost a year now. That’s very difficult to do, I used to work, because in Spain you can’t make a living from boxing. Then, due to my participation in La Casa de Papel, many doors opened for me and I got sponsors, now I can dedicate 100% of my time to boxing”, said Miranda, current WBA-Intercontinental 126 lbs. champion.
Miranda and Altamirano share a similar record in professional boxing. However, the 37-year-old boxer from Cadiz has been a nine-times Spanish champion in amateur boxing and has faced boxers such as Katie Taylor.
“I don’t look at age, my reference is Katie Taylor and she has an impressive physique and there is no other girl in her 20s who has that physique. So it depends on how you think about it and who you look at. I always look at people who do different, amazing and difficult things and I think I can do those things,” Jennifer said.
“Storm” Miranda closed 2023 with a fight in November, when she defeated Gabriella Mezei on points. A fight that served as preparation for her next fight, as she had a year without a fight. However, last year was productive for her, as she had a tour in the United States, where she met trainers such as Freddie Roach, Manny Robles and Kay Karoma. She hopes that everything she has learned will be reflected in the ring this January 7.
