Jake Paul reveals early PPV buys from Tommy Fury fight
In an interview with younger brother Logan, Jake Paul revealed his fight with Tommy Fury, which is still being counted, has amassed over 500,000 PPV buys so far.
The early figures are showing over half a million so far, the Cleveland cruiserweight revealed today, “The silver lining is that the pay-per-views are off the chart, like probably going to be the biggest fight of the year, it’s gonna be hard to contend with,” Paul said on his podcast. “It’s probably coming in at over half a million buys, but still totalling up everything.”
26-year-old YouTuber Paul was handed his first loss in professional boxing by Manchester's Fury, half-brother to WBC heavyweight champion Tyson. The rivals clashed in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, February 26, with the Brit winning via split decision over eight competitive rounds.
23-year-old 'TNT' Fury outlanded the American in every single round, but a flash knockdown in the final round almost cost him the fight. Full fight stats HERE
Paul mostly attributes the loss to how he didn’t perform as well as he could, telling brother Logan that it had nothing to do with Fury and everything to do with him.
“He wasn’t that great, at all,” Paul said on his podcast. “I think Anderson [Silva] was tougher than him. I figured out that puzzle. He threw a lot of punches, that was his biggest thing.”
Paul’s record drops to 6-1, meanwhile Fury moved to 9-0 and even though there’s been bad blood between this pair for over two years, there was mutual respect after the final bell.
“I have respect for the kid,” Paul said. “I think that’s the most beautiful thing about this sport. You can be arch enemies and then find respect for each after beating the s*** out of each other and going to war. It’s definitely really cool.
“I’m happy for him for sure. Just seeing him cry because I’ve been there, going through all the adversity and then the win meaning everything. Definitely happy for him.”
MPaul is already working towards a rematch with Fury stating he’s definitely interested in running it back as well.
