Jack Flatley faces European super-welterweight champion in next fight
There's a 'Quiet Storm' brewing in Bolton as ex-English titlist Jack Flatley (17-1, 4KOs) landed the biggest fight of his career against hard-hitting European super-welterweight champion Kerman Lejarraga (33-2, 25KOs).
The fight will be promoted by Matchroom Boxing on December 3 in Bilbao.
The Bolton boxer shared the news on social media on November 4, writing: "Well here it is then! Stayed true to my profession for the past 2 years through all the bumps and got the opportunity and I’m taking it no question. 4 weeks today we go to Bilbao, Spain to become the European champion against the champion in his back yard. Will be live on DAZN. This is what my dreams are made of let’s go!!!!!!"
The defending champion from Bilbao has only ever been beaten by one man – David Avanesyan – who ripped the European welterweight belt from him in March 2019, which was a major upset considering the Spaniard was 27-0 with 22KOs at the time.
In the rematch, 'Ava' went one better by knocking 'Revolver' out in the very first round and is still the champion today, another three successful defences later – all stoppages within the first six rounds.
The fallen Spaniard immediately jumped up a division and rebuilt with five solid wins, culminating in a second European championship in a second division.
The two-weight European champion now defends his 154lbs bauble for the first time to Flatley, who is already treating this as the biggest fight of his career.
