Jack Catterall ready to face Maurice Hooker
WBO #1 Jack Catterall (24-0, 13KOs) has told WBO super-lightweight world champion Maurice Hooker (26-0-3, 17KOs): "I'm ready."
The Chorley boxing star, nicknamed 'El Gato', extended his perfect professional record to 24-0 with a third-round stoppage of Oscar Amador at Wembley Arena on Saturday, April 27.
A 13th knockout was the perfect way for the 25-year-old to keep busy as the No.1 ranked contender awaits his shot at the WBO World super-lightweight champion.
There is talk of Hooker taking a big fight in his hometown of Dallas in the summer with Catterall's opportunity to win the big one coming towards the end of 2019.
But the former British champion says he will be ready to go whenever the call comes.
"Hooker's welcomed the fight and knows it has to happen," said Catterall.
"I've sent the message and I'll keep sending it.
"I'm straight back in the gym and will be ready for July.
"There's talk of him targetting big names but if they can't lock one down, they have to fight me at some point and I'll be on the first flight over if I get the call.
"It might get to the point where they may as well fight me next."
Catterall was expected to see off Amador, the Argentinian now having lost 18 of 28 fights, but the southpaw did it in style with a straight right hand doing the trick.
"It was high risk, low reward really," he said.
"Anything can happen in a fight.
"I knew that I had to put on a dominant performance and couldn't just coast through the eight rounds.
"I wanted to get rid of him and get him out of there to show I'm ready for these big fights.
""I've been working on timing and practising a few things and it came together.
"It didn't look like the most powerful punch but it certainly did the trick."
