Michael Magnesi crowned WBC Silver Champion
Italian Michael Magnesi (22-1, 13KO) defeated Argentine Ayrton Giménez by unanimous decision, in the Italian town of Valmontone, winning the WBC super-featherweight Silver title.
Giménez, was pressured by the strategy imposed by 28-year-old Magnesi and, despite his agility, found himself cornered on the ropes.
The Argentine fighter sought distance with his jab to stop the Italian’s offensive, but Lazio’s Magnesi demonstrated greater precision and better counterpunching.
The bout was defined on the cards and the three Judges assessed Magnesi as the winner. Argentine Jorge Gorini gave 118-110 as did Belgian Brahim Ait Aadi, while German Juergen Langos scored 119-109.
UK fight fans will remember Magnesi for his narrow split decision defeat to Anthony Cacace in September last year for the IBO World title, which remains the Italian’s only loss.
