Latest IBO updates from June 2022
The newest updates from the independent International Boxing Organisation
The International Boxing Organization released their monthly newsletter for March 2021, consisting of all the latest stories surrounding the respected independent governing body in boxing, featuring the highly-anticipated rematch between heavyweights Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua, the elected champions of the month, and more.
Usyk vs Joshua II
Repeat or Revenge at Rage at the Red Sea? IBO World Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and former champion Anthony Joshua have a date set for August 20th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for their much anticipated rematch.
Usyk said, “I am very happy to get the opportunity to fight in Saudi Arabia and help open new horizons for the sport of boxing. I love to travel around the world and fight in places for the first time. I am not fighting for money or any recognition. I am just doing my job now and will continue fighting until my heart keeps beating. I am not expecting anything from Anthony Joshua, but I know that he will be different, but so will I.”
Joshua replied, “Shout out to everyone in Saudi Arabia as well! It is going to be my second time there; first time was lit and it is going to be even better this time for sure. Going down to the old city was unbelievable. I am sure you have seen some of the videos on social media. Anyone that is going, I am sure you are going to be in for a great time in Saudi Arabia.
“In terms of old AJ, same old G, I’m just doing what I’m doing. Grafting away. It is a rough and tough sport. Fighting these lefties is a nightmare! And I cannot make the same mistake twice. I am hungry and desperate but at the end of the day how I perform will speak.”
Savage Sam Successful
"The Savage" Sam Eggington did not disappoint fans in Coventry over the weekend when he took a unanimous decision victory over undefeated Przemyslaw Zysk on Sky Sports to become IBO World Super Welterweight champion. Team Eggington and mandatory Dennis Hogan are in negotiations for their next fight.
CasKilla Strikes Again
IBO World Welterweight champion Jessica "Caskilla" McCaskill threw bombs for three straight rounds until Team Ibarra stopped the fight on the stool before the fourth round on DAZNBoxing last weekend.

Congratulations to the inducted Boxing Hall of Fame classes of 2020-21-22 which featured six IBO World Champions: Roy Jones Jr, Wladimir Klitschko, Bernand Hopkins, James Toney, Floyd Mayweather and Lucia Rijker.
Serrano Returns
IBO World Featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (42-2-1, 30KO) is back at MSG this summer, defending her belts when she takes on #1 IBO ranked Brenda Carabajal, August 6th on Showtime PPV. The Real Deal aims to rebuild after her only loss to Ireland's Katie Taylor in april, which was the first female fight in history to headline Madison Square Garden.
Wach out for Lerena's Next Heavyweight Challenge
Former IBO World Cruiserweight champion Kevin Lerena (27-1, 14KO) takes the next step in his Heavyweight career when he challenges Mariusz "The Viking" Wach for the IBO Intercontinental Heavyweight title on September 17th at the Emperor's Palace in South Africa. The KO Kid is a former IBO World champion with just one defeat on his impressive record, which occurred very early on his career.
Outstanding Odessa
Undefeated IBO World Bantamweight champion Melissa Odessa Parker had no issues with undefeated Mikenna Tansley when she scored a unanimous decision victory at the Bayou Event Cemter in Houston, Texas earlier this month. The Brooklyn-born Texan retained her world title with unanimous scores of 98-92, 96-94, 96-94.
Angry in Angers
It's Fight Week for Georges Ory and Hugo Guarneros when they meet for a shot at the IBO World Super Flyweight title in Angers, France.
Southpaw Ory gets the home advantage after landing his shot by winning the IBO International Super Flyweight title in his last fight in Deceber 2021. The 30-year-old Frenchman has won three in a row since his defeat to European bantamweight champion Karim Guerfi in 2019.
Also with three wins on the spin, Rosendo Hugo Guarneros Gonzalez makes the 12,00-mile round trip with the belief the IBO belt will be coming home with him. The Mexican is well known to UK fight fans having defeated Sheffield's Tommy Frank twice in a row in 2020 and 2021. However, 'Verdugo's' first trip to the UK in 2019 ended with a one-sided points defeat to Sunny Edwards before the Brit became world champion.
