IBO release their monthly newsletter for September 2020
The international Boxing Organization released their monthly newsletter on September 18, featuring all the latest activity surrounding the world governing body.
Here's a list of the happenings:
Southpaw Erislandy Lara (27-3-3, 15KOs) outpointed a very game Greg Vendetti (22-3-1, 12KOs) becoming a two-time IBO World Super Welterweight Champion.
Houston-based, Cuban-born Lara, known as 'The American Dream', is looking for big fights in 2021. The 37-year-old lost his WBA and IBO World super-welterweight titles to Jarrett Hurd (24-1, 16KOs) in 2018, but now has both of them back again.
Retirement? Not so fast as Matchroom Boxing announces a much-anticipated rematch between Undisputed IBO World Welterweight Champion Jessica McCaskill and former pound for pound queen Cecilia Braekhus who is looking for her belts back. McCaskill will defend her undisputed World Welterweight titles in early 2021 after former champion Brækhus activated the rematch clause.
Chicago ace McCaskill ripped the titles from Brækhus in a tightly fought contest on the streets of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma in August as Matchroom returned to action in the US, with one judge unable to split the pair but challenger McCaskill getting the nod on the other cards, 97-94 and 97-93, which meant she became a two-weight World champion in just her 11th pro outing.
IBO World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua has been spending some time staying nimble on the tennis courts as he awaits a fight date for Kubrat Pulev, which is rumoured to take place on December 12.
Unified IBO World Super Featherweight Champion Terri Harper is back in the gym with Stefy Bull awaiting a fight date for challenger Katharina Thanderz.
IBO World Middleweight Champion Gennadiy Golovkin continues to spend time training in Big Bear, awaiting a date for his defense against Kamil Szeremeta.
World Championship action on November 6th in Italy as Michael Magnesi takes on Patrick Kinigamazi for the IBO World Super Featherweight title.
Congratulations to Unified IBO World Super Featherweight Champion Terri Harper on her long-term signing with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.
Back at 100% strength, Kevin Lerena is looking to defend his IBO World Cruiserweight title before the end of the year.
All time frames to defend IBO titles were suspended on March 1st 2020 due to Covid-19. These time frames will be reinstated on November 1st 2020.
IBO release September world rankings. Britons Liam Smith and Liam Williams both move up one space each in the middleweight rankings, and there's a total of 35 UK and Irish boxers positioned in the IBO world top 15.
IBO release September world female rankings. Five Britons occupy the esteemed list.
