Hughie Fury hopes a fight against Michael Hunter could soon follow
Hughie Fury (26-3, 15KOs) hopes to set up a fight before the end of the year which keeps him on course for a world title shot, according to Peter Fury – his trainer and father.
Fury is the 27-year-old cousin of WBC champion Tyson Fury, and beat Christian Hammer by fifth-round stoppage in October.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Peter Fury explained that there were closing in on a new opponent, "We're just sorting out opponents right now, and we're busy with it. That's exactly what we're looking at. We'll definitely get somebody of high calibre."
The younger Fury is ranked fourth by the WBA and should Oleksandr Usyk resolve his rematch with Anthony Joshua in the New Year, it would see the winner perhaps mandated to face one of the governing body’s top prospects.
Meanwhile, Michael Hunter is open to contesting a bout, "If the people are interested, then let's do it," Hunter said to Sky Sports.
"I'm at No. 2 right now. I know [Daniel] Dubois is in front of me. If I had to fight Hughie Fury to make something happen, to stir up some stuff, I would easily do so.
"I would definitely step in there with no hesitation if it put me in the right position."
