Background
Mikey Conlan rose to prominence after the scandalous reverse result against him in the 2016 Summer Olympics when he clearly defeated his quarter-final opponent, Vladimir Nikitin, from Russia.
A world amateur champion, he signed a big deal in America with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum being the chosen one from many who wanted his signature.
He reached 16-0 as a pro and fought for his first world title within five years from his debut against Leigh Wood, who was heading towards a points defeat until he emptied the kitchen sink and knocked Conlan out in a dramatic 12th round. The Irishman was back in the ring less than five months later to get back to winning ways again.
Karim Guerfi, 35 from France, has held the European featherweight title since August 2021 and previously held the European bantamweight title three times between 2013 and March 2021. He has also challenged for the WBA interim flyweight title in 2012 and the IBO bantamweight title in 2018.
He lost his last fight, along with his EBU belt, to Jordan Gill in December last year and hasn't been back in the ring since.
