Background
The battle of undefeated superstars between unified WBC, WBA and IBF Welterweight World Champion Spence Jr. and WBO 147-pound world champion Crawford for the Undisputed Welterweight World Championship will see the winner become the first undisputed welterweight world champion in the four-belt era and emerge as the sport’s No.1 pound-for-pound fighter.
Unified champ, Spence, has campaigned at welterweight his entire career whereas triple world champion Crawford has come up from world titles at lightweight, undisputed championship at super-lightweight to reigning as the WBO World welterweight champion.
Bigger man Spence is a volume-punching southpaw who applies relentless pressure on the front foot with thumping power, and Crawford is a slick, switch-hitting defensive fighter with snappy punches, a high ring IQ and unrivalled footwork and movement. The mega-fight has been likened to Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler, which “Sugar” won via split decision in 1987. This is a very similar match-up and, no doubt, will be equally as close.
Predictions
Andy Ruiz Jr: "I kind of feel that Crawford has that style that is difficult. He can box around, he can move around. He can be lefty as well, if he wants to. I'm running for Crawford."
