Background
BOXXER cruiserweight tournament winner Zorro, 30 from Lewisham, returned to traditional action with a hard-fought points triumph over Dec Spelman in September of last year and now bids for a maiden professional title.
34 former British beltholder Burton jumped up to cruiserweight after being defeated by the "Super" Dan Azeez in a British title challenge in November 2021. The 34-year-old became British champion in 2016 via a stoppage of Miles Shinkwin and previously challenged for the WBO European title against Ricards Bolotniks in 2020. Cousin to WBC heavyweight king Tyson Fury, Burton won both his fights last year.
Quotes
Frank Warren: “"I think Ellis Zorro going up against Hosea Burton is a terrific fight and one that can catapult Ellis right into the thick of the cruiserweight mix if he is successful. It is a real 50-50 because Hosea is a rejuvenated force now he has stepped up from light heavyweight.”
Predictions
Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: “I think Ellis Zorro had such a valuable learning fight with Dec Spelman that he can only benefit and become stronger from it. I was ringside that night and it was a barnstormer. Spelman gave as good as he got and Zorro was pushed to the limit and came through. A fight like that will give him a world of confidence and I would pick Zorro to be the favourite here, but Burton is seasoned and been there and done that. I think this could be another close, hard fight, but I'm picking Zorro to win on points.”
