Background
Over a year since his last fight, British boxer Conor ‘The Destroyer’ Benn will finally resume his career against Mexican Super-Welterweight Rodolfo ‘Sinaloita’ Orozco this weekend.
Orozco is a seasoned campaigner despite his young age of 24, having made his professional debut at just 16. Standing at 6ft 1in, the heavy-hitter has 24 knockouts on his ledger and has won his last two fights with successive stoppages including a fourth-round victory in Mexico City in June.
But in Benn, Orozco faces a significant step-up with the Essex man determined to put on an impressive performance to make up for lost time. Benn was provisionally suspended back in April, effective as of March 15, when his fight with rival Chris Eubank Jr last October was postponed. The 26-year-old was subsequently cleared in July by UKAD and the WBC, and his provisional suspension was lifted after an independent National Anti-Doping Panel review. Now, “The Destroyer” is aiming to get back to business to regain his lofty world rankings, such as when he was ranked #9 with The Ring Magazine and #10 with the TBRB.
Who is Conor Benn's next opponent, Rodolfo Orozco?Quotes
Eddie Hearn: "Conor Benn is back and I’m looking forward to seeing him pick up where he left off. He’s ready to go straight in for a big fight now but his trainer Tony Sims will be pleased to get him back sooner against a game opponent in Rodolfo Orozco. Conor is looking unbelievable in the gym and I cannot wait to see him back in the ring where he belongs on what is a fantastic fight card in Florida.”
Conor Benn: “I am undefeated in the ring, and in spirit. A return on Saturday is a step closer to redemption. After that, I’m putting the 147-160 divisions on notice. You are looking at a determined man with a deep desire to beat them all.”
Rodolfo Orozco: “I want to thank Matchroom and BXSTRS for this opportunity. This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. This isn’t short notice for me because I’ve been preparing for this moment my entire life. You’ve made a mistake Conor, and I’ll show you that this Saturday.”

Predictions
Tim Rickson BBN Editor: “Orozco is experienced and heavy-handed, but he has only fought within Mexico and has a total of six defeats and draws on his record. Benn is likely going to be a lot better than any opponent he has faced in his eight years and 38 fights as a pro. Two of his defeats were via mixed decision, so he is clearly hard to beat. However, from watching footage of his last bout, I think he will be too slow, too static, and his stand up tall, longer frame will be exposed, and will enable super-sharp Benn to get under hia arms and into his body to knock him out within just a couple of rounds. He looks like he gets stronger and busier as the fight goes on, but I doubt he will get time to do that. He is a tall target for Benn to hit and this could be over within the first round if Benn is on his A-game.”
