Jarrell Miller speaks out after arrest
Just weeks after his first ever professional career defeat to British boxer Daniel Dubois, 35-year-old New Yorker Jarrell Miller was arrested in Miami for allegedly stealing a truck from a Haims Motors dealership on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2024.
The fighter was put behind bars at the Broward County Jail, then appeared in court on Wednesday, January 4th, charged with carjacking and burglary with assault.
A few days later, the American heavyweight took to social media to post the following statement, “GOD is good. GOD is great!
“First and foremost. THANK YOU SINCERELY to my family, team, friends and countless supporters from around the world who have relentlessly lifted me in prayer since this unfortunate ordeal began.
“GOD gives the toughest battles to HIS strongest soldiers. Also, extending a VERY special thanks to my trailblazing attorney John Weekes who says after the facts are revealed, we are ALL confident, he will be vindicated.
“I am prayerful and look forward to a favourable resolution of this case. PRAISE BE TO ALLAH!!”
Miller's lawyers believe there isn't probable cause for the two charges brought against him.
"I think, at best, the state would have a grand theft and a misdemeanour battery instead of those two charges," a defence attorney stated.
However, the judge overseeing the hearing disagreed, stating, "Taking into account the allegations in the probable cause affidavit, the level of force that was used, as well as the manner in which the offence took place, the court does find probable cause as to both counts."
An employee told detectives that a female approached the desk with a story that she had left her phone inside a truck that had been repossessed by the dealership, which is when the staff member grabbed the keys to a black dodge Ram before Miller grabbed him in a chokehold and demanded he hands over the keys. The victim than claimed that Miller took the keys before slamming him into the ground.
The car had a tracker inside, which led to authorities locating the truck in the area of Griffin Road, where Miller was arrested.
"Big Baby's" recent loss to Dubois on December 23, 2023, has seen him drop from #6 to #11 in the WBA rankings. The disgraced heavyweight has also failed drugs test in the past and may struggle to find willing opponents going forward.
