Mexican Alejandra Ayala awakened from her induced coma
Hannah Rankin retained her WBA and IBO Super-Welterweight titles in an historic night in Glasgow at the OVO Hydro on May 13th.
During the first ever Scotland boxing event headlined by female fighters, Rankin's Mexican opponent Alejandra Ayala was placed in an induced coma after being knocked out in the 10th round, but Fightzone today provided the welcome news that Alejandra has now been wakened following successful surgery, and is recovering in hospital.
The online streaming channel added: "Everyone at Dennis Hobson Promotions, Kynoch Boxing Promotions, Fight Academy and Fightzone is so grateful to the wonderful team at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
"We’d also like to thank Alejandra’s parents for keeping us informed along the way, and also the BBBoC for their support.
"Our best wishes are with this brave, brave warrior as she begins her journey of recovery, and we will be on hand to support her in any way we can.
"In the aftermath of the event, Fightzone put a temporary halt on the boxing events that we were involved in as we awaited news of Alejandra’s condition.
"Saturday the 25th of June we make a return to Aberdeen with the third instalment of our hugely popular Ballroom Brawl series. The Granite City has played host to some fantastic nights of action. The atmosphere is always phenomenal and the Welterweight sensation Dean Sutherland will be headlining the event.
"Dean is a hugely popular figure in Aberdeen and has also formed a strong bond with the Aberdeen Football Club. Headlining an event at Pittodrie Stadium has been his dream since turning professional. A dream that may come to fruition for the undefeated star as he closes in on some major title opportunities."
