Goran Babic is the new WBC Mediterranean cruiserweight champion
On November 25 at the Dome Arena in Charleroi, Belgium, two important fights took place with recognised WBC titles at stake.
In a fight for the WBC Mediterranean cruiser crown, Serbian Goran Babic (8-1-2, 5KO) scored an important victory by knocking out Moroccan Kamel Kouaouch (12-3) in the eighth round of the evening's main event.
The fight was hotly disputed but visiting fighter Babic showed his superiority and strength.
The 31-year-old from Sweden hadn't won either of his previous two bouts, but finally wins a title on his third attempt.
In November 2022, he was stopped by unbeaten Veljko Raznatovic with 98 seconds to go in the championship contest for the Serbian cruiserweight title.
Then, in May this year, he was held to a draw by Samo Jangirov when challenging for the Swedish cruiserweight crown.
In his third championship clash, in a third different country, Babic is finally a titleholder. He becomes the 12th champion to lift the WBC Mediterranean cruiserweight title, since it's inception in 2009.
Bilal Laggoune is a former champion who went on to fight for European and World titles. Ivica Bacurin is another notable name on the list, who fought against Tony Bellew, Dillian Whyte and Joe Joyce in England.
Jan Helin vs Ibrahima Diallo
In another fight between two Belgian fighters, Jan Helin tied with Ibrahima Diallo in a WBC Youth super welterweight contest.
Both warriors showed great qualities in the ring and obtained a well-deserved draw at the end of the action.
The supervisor of these fights was the Vice President of the WBC, Houcine Houichi.
