Fab four revealed
The #GoldenContract light-heavyweight quarter-finals provided some thrilling bouts at Essex’s busy Brentwood Centre.
The triumphant semi-finalists who move on to the next phase of the ground-breaking competition are Hosea Burton, Liam Conroy, Serge Michel and Ricards Bolotniks after an entertaining night of action in front of the Sky Sports and ESPN+ cameras.
Hosea Burton felled and outpointed Bob Ajisafe, Liam Conroy did the same to Andre Sterling, Serge Michel the same to Tommy Philbin and Ricards Bolotniks scored a first-round stoppage of the valiant Steven Ward to secure their places.
Dan Azeez’s English title victory over Lawrence Osueke headed an undercard that also included wins for Inder Bassi Singh, Mohammad Sameer, Jordan Flynn, Jamie Robinson, George Mitchell and James Hawley.
Here’s all you need to know…
HOSEA BURTON bt Bob Ajisafe UD10
Burton:“Bob is a very awkward customer and he can also punch. He is one of those men that when you think you’ve got him, he can still knock you out.
“I landed the back hand early, put the manners on him and went back to boxing. You can’t go wild at Bob. If you go wild at him, you run the risk of him switching your lights off because he’s got power. I’m over the moon with that performance.”
LIAM CONROY bt Andre Sterling UD10
Conroy:“I thought I had him a couple of times but I’ve seen him get off the floor and win. I learned from the Steven Ward fight in that I didn’t put everything into three minutes this time when I had him going.
“I just look to myself and try and improve every time. If my trainer Johnney Roye says I’m ready, then I’m happy to go in with anyone. I’m absolutely buzzing. What a Christmas present. I can’t thank MTK Global enough.”
Serge Michel bt TOMMY PHILBIN UD10
Michel:“At the start of the tournament, you don’t know where you stand. This isn’t my homeland but I’m very happy with the outcome and I hope the people of England enjoyed my fight.
“I’m here to fight anyone. I don’t care what the name is – I believe I have the skills to beat anyone.”
Ricards Bolotniks bt STEVEN WARD TKO1
Bolotniks:“It’s brilliant. I’m so happy. I can’t believe it. It’s all down to one thing – training, training and also training…
“I don’t care who I face in the semi-final. Whoever. Hosea Burton said he’s the best at the press conference and I told him he made a mistake. So we’ll see.”
DAN AZEEZ bt Lawrence Osueke UD10
English light-heavyweight title
Azeez:“I didn’t really come out of first gear, to be honest. I just boxed sensibly and we keep moving on and we keep moving up. I’ve won the Southern Area, I’ve just won the English so people know what’s coming next…”
INDER BASSI SINGH bt Geiboord Omier PTS4
MOHAMMAD SAMEER bt Scott Hillman TKO3
JORDAN FLYNN bt Daniel Alder PTS4
JAMIE ROBINSON bt Daryl Pearce PTS6
GEORGE MITCHELL bt Paul Cummings PTS4
JAMES HAWLEY bt Lewis van Poetsch PTS4
