Name: Luke Blackledge Record: W19 L2 D2 Weight: Super-middleweight Born: Clitheroe, Lancashire Residence: Darwen, Lancashire DOB: 06/08/1990 Nickname? “Robbo” Favourite current boxer? “Canelo Alvarez.” Favourite all-time boxer? “Sugar Ray Robinson, more recently I really liked Steve Collins.” Favourite fight? “Mike Tyson v Evander Holyfield.” Amateur clubs? “I started off at 15-years-old at Combat Club in Southport run by Paddy Durkin, the next one was in Accrington called Kokora Boxing with Jason Curtis and that was my coach for my first professional fights, he got me to 10-0 and I had all my unlicensed fights with him as well and I only lost two out of 60 fights. I moved to a different area and started training at Stirk Gym with Kevin Maree and was with him for a year. I’ve been with Alex Matvienko for about a year now and based at Elite Gym in Bolton.” Amateur honours? “I had 60 fights in the unlicensed. I lost my very first fight to a home decision and then lost in the final of a Prizefighter tournament where the opponent got a bye to the final so he didn’t fight just before like me, he went straight into the final but I had a rematch with him about 12 months later and knocked him out!” Goals in boxing? “When I first started boxing, it was to keep me off the streets and my dream was always to be British champion, now it’s to win it outright and to fight for a world title.” Retirement age? “To be honest I love fighting and I love competing, I’ll retire when I can’t stand up anymore.” Team? “Alex Matvienko is my trainer and my gym is Elite Boxing in Bolton.
