Georges Ory becomes WBC Francophone champion
At the Complexe Sportif Emile Joulain in Longue Jumelles, France, local fighter Georges Ory (17-3-1) won the WBC Francophone bantamweight belt by defeating Argentine Pablo Ariel Gómez (18-14-3) on October 28.
The fight was very entertaining, with 32-year-old southpaw Ory demonstrating his great quality by dominating Gómez for most of the rounds.
The Judges’ scores were 98-92, 99-91, 98-92. The supervisor of the bout was Robin Dolpierre.
Ory is a former IBO World super-flyweight champion. The Frenchman only won seven from his first 10 bouts, but has since gone on to achieve great things. He became French bantamweight champion in his 11th fight, then he moved up to claim the EBU European Union belt in his very next fight, then progressed further to become European bantamweight champion straight after, with a win over Briton Josh Wale. He defended it successfully once, then conceded the blue belt to Karim Guerfi in his second title defence in November 2019.
Then he made a run for a world title, firstly by claiming the IBO International title in 2021 down at super-flyweight, then he won the full IBO World title in June 2022 with a points win over Rosendo Hugo Guarneros.
The French fighter could now be making another run at a world title by claiming a WBC regional belt that could earn him a world ranking.
For Argentinian 'Pablito', that's just one win in his last five fights. Prior to that, he had only lost two from 16 bouts and collected IBF Latino, South American bantamweight titles.
