George Kambosos vs Lee Selby October fight to be rescheduled
Kambosos vs Selby was all set to take place at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales, on October 3, but the fight was cancelled and sent back to purse bids, which Matchroom boxing won.
The International Boxing Federation released the following update on September 1: A purse bid for the George Kambosos vs. Lee Selby IBF Lightweight Eliminator for #1 position took place at the IBF office today at 12:00 PM EST. The participants in the bid were Lou DiBella Entertainment and Matchroom Boxing. Matchroom Boxing won bidding $277,777.00. DiBella Entertainment bid $260,000.00.
Lee Selby was due to take on George Kambosos Jrin a Final Eliminator for the IBF Lightweight World Title on Saturday, May 9 at the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff, live on Sky Sports, but Matchroom Boxing were forced to reschedule all their May events due to the pandemic.
Selby (28-2, 9KOs), a former IBF featherweight World champion, edged out Scottish legend Ricky Burns via a majority decision at The O2 in London last October to stay in line for another world title shot and now finds himself within touching distance of becoming a two-weight World champion.
Kambosos Jr (18-0, 10KOs), hailing from Sydney in Australia, defeated former World champion Mickey Bey on away territory at Madison Square Garden in New York last time out to announce himself as a rising star of the thriving lightweight division and has vowed to 'retire' Selby in front of his home crowd.
