Ballesta wins WBC Francophone super lightweight title
Frenchman Bastien Ballesta (23-0-1, 4KOs) defeated Hedi Slimani (33-7-1, 17KOs), from Belgium, at Arenes Municipales, Boujan-sur-Libron, in France, on July 23, to be crowned Francophone super lightweight champion of the World Boxing Council.
The fight was hotly contested, but unfortunately Tunisian-born Slimani, 34-years-old, suffered a dislocation of his left shoulder at the end of the fifth round, which prevented him from continuing the fight.
Now unbeaten in 24 bouts, southpaw Ballesta, 26-years-old, with this latest victory has shown he is one of the best prospects of his country.
It was on his debut in 2015 when he settled for a draw in his pro bow, but has since won every other fight, collecting three titles along the way – France; IBO Mediterranean; and WBC Francophone super-lightweight titles.
The Referee was Robin Dolpierre, while the Judges were Christophe Fernández, Ali Oubaali and Francisco Vazquez Marcos. The Supervisor was the Vice President of the WBC and President of the ABU, Houcine Houichi.
