Frank Smith disappointed with Fury vs Whyte: “I don’t believe it’s got the promotion it deserves”
BetfredTV have been speaking to Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith regarding Tyson Fury versus Dillian Whyte and the supposed lack of promotion ahead of the mega-fight.The Chief Executive of Matchroom believes the St. George's Day clash at Wembley Stadium may have sold out 94,000 tickets, making it a record number at the national stadium, but the promotion hasn't matched the magnitude of the moment.
Dillian's brother Dean has also been very vocal about the treatment they have received from Queensberry Promotions, stating that they have done their utmost to make it an uneven playing field.
Matchroom's Frank Smith also shared his thoughts, “From Dillian’s perspective, I can understand there was a lot going on in the background. Someone asked me how to compare it to what we do and we’ve got a machine of 35 people who work for us, just in our team and we’ve got PR agencies who work for us on top of that. We are 24/7. Eddie [Hearn] pushes everyone relentlessly and I’m quite relentless as well. It works well.
“I’ll get stick for saying this but how many major fights has Frank Warren promoted in the last few years? That’s not me just saying that to be negative. We do it every week. We’re doing [Katie] Taylor versus [Amanda] Serrano, then [Dmitry] Bivol the week after that and then we’re finalising [Anthony] Joshua versus [Oleksandr] Usyk and then Canelo’s [Álvarez] next fight. We are week to week to week to week, huge events, all around the world and that’s what we do. It’s been done differently and I don’t believe it’s got the promotion it deserves. It’s a huge fight which has sold 94,000 tickets and broke the record, so well done to them for that. Congrats. It’s going to be a great fight and I’ll be watching, maybe not there, but I’ll definitely be tuning in.”
He ended with his prediction for fight night, “I think he knocks Tyson Fury out”.
