Mikey Garcia hangs up his gloves
Former world champion Mikey García (40-2-0, 30KOs), who won titles in four weight divisions, has officially announced his retirement at the age of 34.
Born in Ventura, California, Mikey announced this news through his social networks, after modifying his personal Instagram account to break the news, writing simply in his profile information: “Retired World Champion 126, 130, 135 and 140 lbs.”
In this way, Mikey closes his illustrious career in boxing, almost 16 years after his professional debut on July 14, 2006 against Domingo Herrera Mendoza.
The last time he fought was in October 2021, when he lost to Sandor Martin by majority decision.
At 34 years, the four-time world boxing champion set a professional record of 40 wins, 39 of them consecutively, won 30 fights by knockout and defeated distinguished rivals Juan Manuel López, Dejan Zlaticanin and Orlando ‘Siri’ Salido. He only lost two fights in his entire career.
His winning streak only ended when he moved up to welterweight to face the much larger Errol Spence Jr.
With a successful life in boxing world, Garcia has onpassed his passion for the sport to his children, whom he regularly takes to train at his family’s gym in California.
