Mickey Bey discusses life as a trainer, upcoming promotions, and more
Former world champion Mickey Bey is enjoying his life in boxing, as the former IBF King is continued his work in and out of the ring as a trainer, and assisting his brother with their debut show this coming weekend in Atlanta, GA.
Bey trains a budding stable of fighters, and the Las Vegas-based boxing all-rounder discussed his upcoming talent.
He said, “I’m enjoying my life in boxing. I’ve been working with Devin Haney which was great work. I’m training Darren Cunningham III, who I think is one of the best up-and-coming super bantamweights in the USA right now, and Amari Jones who’s with Devin Haney Promotions and will be a star at 147 and 154 in the future.
“I’ve learned from some world-class trainers, the likes of Floyd Mayweather Sr and the late Emmanuel Steward. These are some of the greatest of all time. I’ve been there and done it as a professional and I’m hungry to pass on my knowledge to the next generation of stars.”
Bey is now heading into the promotional game with his brother Cortez, founding Bey Bros promotion that’s debut show in Atlanta, Georgia at the Cosmopolitan lounge features the highly anticipated debut of Najee Lopez, the highly rated Lorenzo Simpson, as well as Bey’s stable of trained fighters.
The Cleveland, Ohio native discussed his debut promotion and whether or not he would return to the ring.
“I’m really excited for the weekend. There’s some world class talent on this card and I’m excited that we are starting something special with some top class fighters. Having the fighters I train on the card is great, and having fighters like Lorenzo Simpson who is top quality on the card too is exciting. The people in town for the fight will definitely enjoy it.
“If the right fight came along I would think about fighting again. I still train everyday, I’m still in shape and there’s still a lot left in the tank, but right now I’m happy with life and happy working with such good fighters. Being able to work with my brother promoting shows is also a blessing, and I’m very excited about the future.”
