Floyd Mayweather bet on Bivol to beat Canelo and won
Floyd Mayweather laid down a $10k bet on underdog Dmitry Bivol to beat Canelo on April 7 in Las Vegas and won $52.5k in return for guessing right.
The Mexican superstar, widely regarded as the world's No.1 pound for pound fighter, was beaten handily by the bigger man, who used his long-reaching jab and sustained pressure to keep Canelo at bay all fight long, who became bereft of ideas.
Bivol became only the second man to better Alvarez with the shock win at the 20,000-capacity T-Mobile Arena. He joins Mayweather Jr. in that feat, who outclassed a much younger Canelo in 2013.
During his career, it's reported that Floyd "Money" Mayweather has amassed a fortune of over $900 million, which is why he doesn't mind placing a big bet every so often. He is also fond of betting against former foes, once winning a $50k bet on Dustin Poirer to beat Conor McGregor.
The sport's only ever undisputed super-middleweight champion had moved up in weight to face WBA light-heavyweight king Bivol, who successfully defended his title for an eighth time, which sent shockwaves through the world. The Russian won 115-113 on all three scorecards although the reality was that the contest was much wider than that.
