Watch top prospects Stanley Stannard and Callum Blockley in action this weekend
Fightzone viewers will get an international double header this Sunday, December 12, with fight action from Leicester and Toronto taking centre stage.
Promoters Carl Greaves (England) and Lee Baxter (Canada) both have packed cards on display on the same day, broadcast live and on demand on Fightzone.
'The Fight Before Christmas'
With a mission to shine a spotlight on up and coming, future champions – the Leicester Arena show will showcase some of the Midlands best prospects, with the Fightzone broadcast starting at 3pm.
The standouts on this Carl Greaves promotion are unbeaten fighters – Stanley Stannard and Callum Blockley.
Fightzone viewers have seen Stannard previously when he picked up a noteworthy stoppage win in June over the usually durable, Genadij Krajevskij. The 25-year-old southpaw is currently 5-0, with two KOs, and will face another tough journeyman on Sunday in Serge Ambomo. Originally from Cameroon but fighting out of Sheffield, Ambomo may have been beaten 25 times in 34 outings, but notably has only been stopped on four occasions – so should provide some useful, learning rounds for Leicestershire's Stannard.
Blockley is another Midlands fighter with a bright future. Hugely popular and another southpaw – 'Blocko' is unbeaten in seven, with one KO. A former England international in the amateurs, Callum gets the vastly experienced Danny Little on the Leicester Arena bill. Having been finished early just eight times in 84 bouts, Little is another interesting match who won't give Blockley an easy night's work.
"Stanley is one to watch. He's always in an exciting fight and has a good couple of stoppage wins already under his belt. This will be a really good learning fight for him against Ambomo and I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles it.
"Callum has done heaps of tickets for this show. His dad is one of Tony Sibson's best mates, and Tony was an unbelievable fighter and is a Leicester legend having fought 'Marvellous' Marvin Hagler. Callum is a really nice kid, a good little fighter and another top prospect to keep an eye on.
"This show is a chance to showcase my up and coming prospects. Most of them haven't had more than ten fights; it's a chance to get them out before Christmas, and this show is exactly what Fightzone is all about – shining a light on some of the country's best young talent.
"The Leicester Arena is also a great boxing venue, just right for a TV show, and we're hoping to have 1200 people there, so the atmosphere will be brilliant."
There's a sextet of unbeaten prospects heading up the card – Stanley Stannard (5-0); Callum Blockley (7-0); Benn Norman (4-0); Ellis Hopkins (2-0); Conner Downs (3-0); Kenan Brown Wingfield (1-0); plus three exciting debutants – Paige Murney; Brad Bethell; Ben Lilley. Former Conor Benn opponent Joe Ducker (8-8-2) also appears.
Heron vs Benitez
The Canadian card is the first from Lee Baxter Promotions. Kicking off at 9pm UK time, the bill is the first chance for Fightzone viewers to get a glimpse of Kane Heron.
A decent amateur, Heron turned pro at 24 and has racked up an unbeaten 16-0-1 (7) record since his 2015 debut. The Toronto native won the Canadian Welterweight Championship in just his 10h contest in 2017, and has a reputation for always being in exciting fights. British fight fans will have a keen eye on this overseas show, with Heron potentially being a match for a Brit fighter in the future, maybe in a Commonwealth Title contest.
