Anthony Joshua vs Jarrell Miller – BBN asked fight fans for their reactions
The announcement that Anthony Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs) would defend his WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO Heavyweight World titles against Jarrell Miller (23-0-1, 20 KOs) on June 1 at the iconic Madison Square Garden was of no suprise to anyone, but there was still plenty to be said in response on Twitter.
Heavyweight boxing’s biggest star has long been linked to fights with Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and even a rematch with Dillian Whyte, yet the 29-year-old's seventh contest as a World champion comes against a loudmouth American who simply trash talked his way into the fight.
‘AJ’ had to scrap a scheduled April 13 Wembley Stadium fight date to travel to the States to defend his World titles to 'Big Baby', who is ranked as high as #2 with the WBA and #3 with the WBO.
So BBN asked their passionate following what they thought of the announcement on February 13:
@markjamesede reacted with: The only interest I have in an AJ vs Miller fight, is hearing Dillian Whyte and Tyson Fury take the piss out of it. The only way AJ comes out with ANY credit for this whole situation is if he blasts Miller out of there in concussive style in the first round.
@theboxingfanman contributed: AJ didn't sound happy but he has to enjoy the opportunity for exposure in the US. He needs a devastating performance that makes a lasting impact on American fans, so that they clamour for a unification against Wilder or Fury, at the end of the year.@AnthonyJoshuaFC said: Would've preferred anyone but Miller but still glad we've finally had some official news
@OldGafferGamgee defended AJ: I really don’t get the anger towards Anthony Joshua. Wilder and Fury have to have their rematch and Joshua needs to keep active. Jarrell Miller is the best pick of the rest.
@collinz_ voiced this opinion: Not the fight we want, don’t care. @Tyson_Fury is the only person who will fight anyone and is proving it time after time. Bore off AJ
@_sina93 commented: Positive is fighting in the US will be great for Joshua in his quest to create a legacy, it's the next best move if undisputed wasn't going to happen. It'll also give him a much bigger profile as HW champ worldwide. Negative is that it's not the fight everyone necessarily wanted.
@JC1on1 felt disappointed: Another let down from the Joshua/Hearn camp!
@jimmythekilt raged: Always been a fan of @EddieHearn, he’s done a great deal for boxing but this is getting beyond a joke now. @BIGBABYMILLER is average at best, no PPV value AGAIN! @anthonyfjoshua needs to man up & face a real contender to be considered g8. I feel for @DillianWhyte. #JoshuaMiller CON
