Faton Vukshinaj claims title and retains undefeated record
Unbeaten Swiss Faton Vukshinaj (14-0-2, 8KOs) won the Francophone Middleweight title, endorsed by the World Boxing Council, by knocking out London-based Romanian Florin Cardos (21-3, 9KOs) in the second round at the Grand Casino Basel in Switzerland.
Faton won the first round on all three judges’ scorecards, showing the more experienced Florin, 33 from Stratford, a better start by punishing his opponent.
In the second round, the 30-year-old Swiss boxer managed to connect with power shots, sending his opponent to canvas. Florin, a former EBU-EU champion, stood up only to receive more punishment and was knocked down again. The Referee rightfully decided to stop the fight.
'El Vulcano' claimed his first ever pro title whilst retaining his unbeaten record.
The match Supervisor was WBC Vice President Houcine Houichi. The card was promoted by Sevkan Mengucek.
Florin has fought three times at the Tolworth Recreation Centre in Surrey, but the rest of his bouts have been abroad, mostly in his country of birth – Romania – and Germany.
He once held the WBC CISBB welterweight title, which is for pro boxers from Slavic and Baltic countries to compete for. He won that in 2014 and, in the following year, he added the WBC Mediterranean welterweight title, culminating in become a EBU-EU super-lightweight champion in 2018.
He has managed to fight twice in 2021 after an extended absence due to the pandemic, claiming one win and suffering one loss.
