Fabio Wardley vs Nathan Gorman confirmed
Joe Joyce finally vacated the British heavyweight title to allow English champion Fabio Wardley and mandatory challenger Nathan Gorman fight for the prestigious belt.
27-year-old Wardley is placed as 9th in the BoxRec heavyweight rankings and 26-year-old Gorman is directly behind him in 10th position.
In last month's circular, Gorman had been mandated to fight for Wardley's English title, but Fabio's promoter Eddie Hearn put in a request for this championship fight to be upgraded to the British title, which was approved by the Stewards.
Nantwich's Nathan dusted off 15 months of ringrust in his last fight in June, televised live on Channel 5. The once-beaten slickster bulldozed through Tomas Salek in just 81 seconds just one month ago to win the IBF International heavyweight title, with cousn Tyson Fury watching from ringside.
Ipswich's Fabio is unbeaten in 14 fights with 13 of those coming by knockout. He won the English strap with a convincing win over Simon Vallily at the Matchoom fight Camp series in August 2020 and defended it in explosive style against Nick Webb exactly a year later in August 2021 in the same place – the Matchroom HQ Gardens.
So far, the breaking news has been met with much excitement from fight fans, with most agreeing that this should be an even, interesting match-up between two of the country's top heavyweights, outside of the world-ranked figures, such as Hughie Fury, Dillian Whyte, Dereck Chisora.
Whoever wins has a plethora of potential contenders to defend against, including undefeated David Adeleye, Kash Ali, as well as 'The White Rhino' David Allen who previously stated his intention to fight for the Lonsdale belt, which has been held by heavyweights Lennox Lewis, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in the recent past.
