Heavyweight Boma ‘Bomber’ Brown wins pro bow
Everton Red Triangle gym’s newest recruit, heavyweight Boma Brown (1-0), got off to a winning start in his professional career with a debut win in London on Friday, November 19.
Born and bred in Wembley, heavyweight ‘Bomber’ Brown made his pro bow in Islington, on a Frank Warren promoted show, just 10 miles from where he grew up.
The Arsenal FC fan, aged 27, was poised and patient to win on points against Nottingham’s Lamah Griggs (1-4), with an impressive, controlled performance, winning all four rounds.
Brown said of his performance post-fight, “It was an ok performance, I would have definitely liked the stoppage and that was something that was in the back of my mind, but at the same time it’s good to get the four rounds under my belt.
“I had my last amateur bout back in April, so to get out in November before the end of the year was good to get a bit of rust off.
“I’m grateful to Paul and Anthony because they have put so much work into me already. I also want to thank the lads, Nick Ball, Brand Strand, Peter and Joe McGrail, Andrew Cain for their support and for welcoming me into their gym.”
Brown is trained by head coach Paul Stevenson and Anthony Humphreys at the Everton Red Triangle gym in Liverpool. He joined the gym known for their conveyor belt of champions in July this year, then signed with promoter Frank Warren just one month later in August.
He added, “I’m looking forward to learning more from Paul and Anthony and getting better, it was a decent performance but loads more to improve on. I just want to be a sponge next year and just take in as much as possible and hopefully get more KOs.”
Boma didn’t start boxing until late, around 19-years-old, but went on to win three Midlands titles as an amateur and counted European bronze medallist Delicious Orie as his main sparring partner.
His teammate Brad Strand won the following night in Telford, making it a clean slate for the century-old Everton red Triangle gym that weekend.
Strand defeated a dangerous Nicaraguan, Darwin Martinez (7-7-2, 6KO), live on BT Sport on another Frank Warren promoted show. Strand knocked Darwin down in the first round, hurt him again in the fourth, but was taken the six-round distance where he won 59-54 on points.
Both Brad and Boma expect to enjoy a week off before heading back to the ERT Gym to prepare for their respective 2023 campaigns, where Strand is looking for title challenges and Brown will be aiming to keep as busy as possible.
