Everlast pick up a 'Spider'
30-year old South Londoner joins Team Everlast ahead of Saturday’s world light-heavyweight title fight
Everlast, the brand of choice for generations of world champion athletes, today proudly announced upcoming world title challenger Craig 'Spider' Richards as its latest brand partner.
One of Britain’s most exciting fighters, Richards looks to become the latest boxer to reach the pinnacle of the sport when he challenges Dimitry Bivol for the WBA light-heavyweight title in Manchester on Saturday.
A victory over Bivol would go down as one of the all-time greatest wins by a British boxer and demonstrates why Richards is the perfect partner for Everlast, a brand that aims to unleash strength and determination in every individual.
His shot at world honours comes after he was involved in a Fight of the Year contender back in December, as he superbly stopped previously unbeaten Shakan Pitters to win the British light-heavyweight title.
Richards joins Everlast’s existing stable of elite athletes including Josh Taylor, Conor Benn, Lee McGregor, Ramla Ali and Natasha Jonas. Together, the #TeamEverlast fighters seek to inspire the fight in us all.
In signing his long-term partnership with the premier fight sports and fitness brand, Richards will use Everlast equipment and wear the new Greatness sportswear range. Battle-tested in one of the toughest athletic environments, Everlast products have been imagined by a hundred years in the gym, designed and engineered to empower your best self.
Having firmly established himself as a big fan favourite over the last few years, Richards burst onto the scene with a number of dazzling performances early in his career, winning the Southern Area super-middleweight title in 2017.
His fast rise through the ranks saw him then challenge for the British title in just his 11th professional fight, the belt that he now proudly wears around his waist.
Richards exemplifies Everlast’s values of strength and dedication, with the talented 175lb fighter also currently ranked number 5 in the world with the WBA and number 7 with the IBF.
Commenting on the partnership, Richards said: “I’m super excited about this partnership with Everlast, a true boxing brand to its core. Throughout my boxing journey I’ve watched many playbacks of legends in the sport that I look up to and I see them wearing Everlast during their biggest fights and special careers. I hope one day a fighter many years from now will look back on my career and see that I’m supported by the best boxing brand ever created”.
Chris Zoller, Everlast’s VP of Marketing and Product Development, added: "We are honored to be adding Craig to Team Everlast today. He’s been on our radar since 2017 not only for his ability in the ring, but also his inherent determination and belief in himself. We are proud to be supporting him for the next stage in his career."
With nine knockout wins in his 16 victories Richards’ fights always provide incredible entertainment, and that is expected from his collision with Bivol this weekend.
Six of his stoppage wins have come in his last eight wins, including a third round TKO against Jake Ball for the WBA Continental light-heavyweight title back in February 2019.
At just 30-years-old, Richards is destined to go from strength to strength over the next few years, with his career expected to skyrocket in the near future.
He is one of two proud Everlast athletes challenging for world honours this weekend, as Natasha Jonas goes up against Katie Taylor for the undisputed lightweight titles.
