Ryan Rozicki vs Jean Jacques Olivier is off
Rozicki will jump up to heavyweight to face new opponent
European champion Jean Jacques Olivier (15-2-1, 10KOs) withdrew from the June 10 fight in Halifax against Ryan Rozicki (17-1-0, 16KOs) for the WBC Cruiserweight Silver title.
To save the card, Rozicki will move up to heavyweight to face Zamig Atakishiyev (8-1-1, 6KOs) of Azerbaijan in a 10-round bout.
“The fight will be at heavyweight and while this is not our optimal path, no one in his weight class was ready to face Rozicki. He is a small cruiserweight and while we don’t want to give Zamig any advantage, we are confident in Ryan’s great potential,” said Three Lions Promotions CEO Daniel Otter.
“We want to say a huge thank you to Zamig and his team for taking this fight on such short notice, may the best man win,” Otter added.
Known as Zamig “Attack” Atakishiyev, the 36-year-old is the No.1 heavyweight in Azerbaijan. Managed by Gary Freedman, Atakishiyev lost his last bout to Alexis Barriere, which was also in Canada. He returns to the Great White North looking to exact revenge and get back to winning ways again.
Pedro Bernal vs Tison Cave
The co-main event will see current WBC Youth world title holder Pedro “Simba” Bernal (11-1 3KOs) clash with former world title challenger Tison “The Prince of Hali” Cave (35-3 13KOs) over eight rounds at super-featherweight. Neither fighter has lost in their last 11 fights, so the pair are unbeaten in the previous 22 bouts between them.
Canadian southpaw Cave has won his last 11 bouts in a row, six via KO, since his last defeat across the border in America to Oscar Escandon for the Interim World super-bantamweight title in 2014. In his last fight, Tison claimed the WBC International Silver super-bantamweight title.
Mexican Bernal hasn't lost in 11 bouts, but includes two draws. This will be his third consecutive contest in Canada.
The card is scheduled to start at 5pm Eastern time / 10pm BST and will be broadcast on the FITE TV platform.
