Spence Jr. has successful surgery
WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr underwent surgery on Wednesday, August 11, to repair an injury to the retina in his left eye.
This damage was promptly discovered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission during a pre-fight examination.
The 31-year-old champion provided an immediate update on his health after coming out of the recovery room, following the successful process: “The emergency surgery was great and thank you all for your good wishes and prayers. I will be back soon. This could have been a worse problem for me. Watching my children grow is the most important thing. I am going to be resting for a while and soon we I return to the ring all the stronger.”
Manny Pacquiao, who was to be his rival, wished Errol a speedy recovery commenting: “I want to say that I am praying that Errol recovers quickly from his injury. Health is always the priority and the most important thing.”
'Pac-Man' was all set to face 'The Truth' on August 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but his wounds forced him to step aside and allow late replacement Yordenis Ugas to stand in. '54 Milagros' Ugas, 35 from Cuba, is the WBA World welterweight champion.
