Eddy Reynoso: “Saunders will be a toughie”
WBC, WBA, Ring Magazine super-middleweight champion Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez (55-1-2, 37 KOs), takes on WBO ruler, Billy Joe Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs), on May 8 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Coach Eddy Reynoso, who has a long and successful career working with Canelo, heaped praise upon Billy Joe, stating, “The fight with Saunders will be really tough. He works his legs very well. He throws good combinations and has good defense. It will be an excellent fight.”
Canelo is making up for lost time, fighting for the third time in five months after dethroning another Brit, Callum Smith, in December, last year then brushing aside Avni Yildirim in February.
Canelo also praised his forthcoming opponent: “He is a good boxer. He is a tough and left-handed fighter, but we will be ready for him. I am very motivated to get a great victory.”
Saunders in his most recent bout defeated compatriot Martin Murray last December.
He is now back with former trainer Mark Tibbs, basing their training camp in the state-of-the-art MTK Fuerteventura Gym in the Canary Islands. Hear from sparring partner, Grant 'Go-Getter' Dennis, all about world champion camp life with Saunders HERE
