Debutant Kieron Brennan all set to start professional journey
18-year-old dedicated debutant, Kieron Brennan, from Chesterfield, has signed professional contracts with established promotions company, Boxing Connected.
Kieron had 24 amateur fights, winning 14 of them. He won the East Midlands title twice, at the ages of 13 and 14; he boxed for Yorkshire vs Wales when he was 15; and his last fight was against Kell Brook’s nephew, Tyrese Brook, in February 2020, just a few weeks before the first lockdown brought boxing to a halt worldwide.
He started boxing at the age of 11, first taken to the local club by his dad, Andy, after he and his older brother Shay, now 21, were fighting one day, and it was their nan that bought them both their first pair of boxing gloves.
As an amateur, he trained with Robert Riley and Gary Longmore at Riley’s Boxing in Sheffield, but as a paid puncher, he will be guided by trainer Michael White at the Fighting Fit Gym in Dinnington where he is lucky to be part of a talented team with fellow pros Declan Cairns (2-0, 1KO), an unbeaten super-welterweight; Central Area title contender Kyle Fox (7-1); Ultimate Boxxer heavyweight finalist Mark ‘Bad News’ Bennett (7-1, 1KO); and teak-tough journeyman Luke Middleton (2-11).
He turned pro after becoming disenchanted with the decisions he was receiving in the amateurs, recalling one fight in Derby where he gave his opponent two standing eight-counts but still lost the fight on the scorecards.
Ambitious and determined, he has been eager to join the professional ranks for a long time, and now begins his arduous journey toward his pro debut for Boxing Connected.
However, his start was temporarily delayed when, in September 2020, he was very unfortunate to suffer from a bizarre accident where a car crashed into the bus he was on, exactly where he was seated, knocking him unconscious and knocking out two of his teeth in the impact. The accident happened in his hometown of Chesterfield and he had to have his teeth rebuilt, as well as an extended time off from boxing training.
Kieron is a qualified plasterer who works full time for friend and fellow pro boxer Jayce Dixon, who was a Central Area title contender during his short five-fight career.
When he is not working, he is training. When he is not training, he is watching boxing fights on his phone.
His dedication knows no bounds and he recently took himself to Stefy Bull’s Sheffield-based gym to train with world champion Terri Harper. It was one of his first boxing sessions just after his accident designed to help regain his confidence and fitness. Terri took time out of her session to take the teenager on the pads and answered his many questions he asked afterwards.
“My ambitions for my pro career are to make it to the top – I want to win a world title,” he asserted. “I’m motivated to win everything and I’m very hungry for it.”
Following in the footsteps of Vasyl Lomachenko, who is well known for taking dancing lessons to aid his incredible footwork and balance, Keiron has been a committed member of the Claire Dobinson School of Dancing in Rowsley for five years now, taking regular ballet lessons.
The date of his pro debut hasn’t been arranged yet but Brennan assures, “I’m ready whenever, hopefully as soon as possible.”
