Dillian Whyte vs Otto Wallin has been cancelled
Dillian Whyte’s showdown with Otto Wallin this month has been called off after the Brit suffered an injury in training.
Heavyweight Whyte was scheduled to headline the card in London on October 30, seven months on from his last fight with Povetkin, against the Swedish heavyweight who cut Tyson Fury badly during their 2019 fight.
But just 11 days before fight night at the O2 Arena, The Sun reported that a shoulder injury has left the Brixton boxer unable to compete.
The 33-year-old Jamaican-born champion has been preparing at his regular training camp in Portugal and was scheduled to fly back to the UK at the start of next week.
But now, after an MRI scan on his shoulder, he will be forced to recover from this latest injury issue before rearranging the fight with Wallin.
Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed, "After an MRI scan on his shoulder today and the consultation with the specialist, unfortunately Dillian Whyte is not fit to fight on October 30. The show will proceed without Dillian and we look forward to seeing him back in the ring shortly."
Chantelle Cameron vs Mary McGee has been moved up to the headliner, with Craig Richards, Youssef Khoumari and Alen Babic also on the card.
After a shock knockout defeat to Alexander Povetkin last year, Whyte reclaimed his status as the No.1 contender for the WBC title with dominant victory over the Russian in their March rematch.
After Fury's 11th round knockout over Wilder, Whyte was made the mandatory challenger to the WBC World heavyweight title.
Some are dubious about the injury, believing that the recent development of Whyte being made mandatory for Tyson Fury's WBC heavyweight title has caused a change of heart in fighting risky contender Wallin, not wanting to risk a world title shot and career-best payday.
