Quotes
Otto Wallin: “I’ll be the WBC interim champion. That’s a big title, and it should put me in line for Fury or whoever is champion. I’m going to show that Dillian Whyte has a lot of holes in his game, and I’m a smart fighter. I’m going to show that what happened with Fury, I’m ready to in this fight, and I’m going to do it in style.”
Background
Both these heavyweights are looking for victory to propel them into a World title fight with Tyson Fury.
Dillian Whyte has been patiently waiting for his shot at the WBC green and gold belt for some time now, although he momentarily lost his mandatory spot in 2020 when he was iced out cold by Russian powerhouse Alexander Povetkin, but he put that right in their March 2021 rematch when Whyte reversed the decision by knocking him out one round faster in the fifth.
Otto Wallin rose to fame following his bloody encounter with Tyson Fury in 2019, where he cut 'The Gypsy King' with a punch in the third round, which later required 47 stitches. Written off by many, the unheralded Sedish southpaw managed to win rounds on all the judges scorecards and gave the Lineal champ some anxious moments during their 12-round clash.
Now that Tyson Fury has seen off Deontay Wilder for good, a fight with either of these contenders next year looks likely, while Oleksandr Usyk is tied up with a contracted rematch clause with Anthony Joshua.
Both have lost once during their last five fights, but they each come into the contest following wins, so there's confidence and momentum there making this a close contest with a lot at stake, on the eve of Halloween where only one will receive a treat and the other a fright.
Predictions
Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: “Dillian Whyte, I expect to do a demolition job here. He will have studied the Fury-Wallin fight and will be prepared for this rough Swede. Whyte's improvements, I find very impressive. He has managed to adapt and adjust throughout his career. I understand that Wallin is tough, but I expect Whyte to be fully prepared for whatever he brings to the ring and be able to land his big bombs to get the fight finished early and make a statement to the holder of the green and gold belt that he has been chasing after for so long now.”
