A profile of Devin Haney
The 23-year-old has crafted and built an undefeated record of 27-0-0 with 15 KOs and is one of the most talented fighters today.
Devin moved to Las Vegas with his family as a child. The first time he entered a gym was when he was seven years old. His father took him after a dust up at school and told him that there he would find more boys wanting to fight.
He didn't imagine that he was forming a future world champion.
As an amateur Devin won seven national championships in the United States and crafted a record of 130-8, becoming the youngest boxer to win the World Junior Championship, which was held in Nevada.
An exacting pro apprenticeship, since his team decided that he had to shape his career by fighting in Mexico, as the State of California denied him a license at the age of 17. He starred in his first fights in no nonsense Tijuana and you can find some of his first fights on Youtube.
On March 4, 2017, Devin reached his first goal, winning the WBC youth title after defeating Mexican Maximino Toala by knockout in the fourth round, in a performance where he demonstrated his exceptional potential.
On May 25, 2019 he won the WBC International title by defeating the previously undefeated Xolisani Ndongeni of South Africa, in a match in which he dominated.
Devin won the WBC lightweight world title, defeating Zaur Abdullaev in September 2019. He has defended the Green and Gold Belt four times and has overcame former world champions in his last three fights. In 2021, Devin outpointed former champion Jorge Linares over 12 rounds in May and followed that up with a clear points victory over former interim champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. in December.
In addition to proving himself to be a very skilled champion throughout his career, he has shown his great heart to the Nevada community by supporting homeless youth.
Devin is already in Melbourne, Australia and is ready for one of the toughest tests of his career.
